About North.

A brief history of how we got here.

How it started

Hospitality & Education

My hospitality experience began when I was at school, mainly waitressing in restaurants and at hotel events. While I studied for my English degree at King’s College London I worked a busy independent pub in Borough. Shortly after graduation they promoted me to a managerial position.

PR, Comms & Marketing

During this time I kicked my writing career off in a substantive PR and comms role for a UK-wide Eden Project campaign. I sourced, interviewed and wrote case studies and blogs; created and managed the social media strategy and liaised with MPs’ offices, local councils and other stakeholders.

Travel & Journalism

I took a brief break to go travelling , volunteering with ICS (International Citizen Service) in India for three months and then in Zambia as a Team Leader, which reaffirmed my desire to train as a journalist. Shortly after returning I completed my NCTJ diploma in Multimedia Journalism at News Associates in Manchester where I studied media law, public affairs, shorthand (100 wpm) and ethics and wrote articles for MM and the Yorkshire Evening Post.

How it’s going

The Telegraph Travel years

Just weeks after graduating (2016), I landed an internship at Telegraph Travel which turned into a full-time Assistant Content Editor job. I helped the team edit, publish and commission 10,000 hotel reviews. During a brief pause I did a big commercial copywriting project for Kuoni‘s website. In 2019 I was promoted to Content Editor and was responsible for overseeing the hotel guides project around 1,000 among other responsibilities. These were published across print and online. I also got to travel to some incredible places and review some amazing hotels.

Promotions & Publishing

Following a reshuffle I was repositioned to the newly created publishing team on the Travel desk. This was a production-heavy role that required the use of multiple CMS systems, data handling and reporting, and final proofing, and I was promoted to Acting Senior Content Editor. Before I left The Telegraph our team had merged with the Lifestyle publishing team and I worked closely with multiple editors across several departments.

The birth of North Copy

In 2023 I left The Telegraph and started my copywriting buisness. What began as Quintessent Copywriting has now rebranded as North Copy, mainly to encompass my editiorial work. Over the last couple of years, highlights have included writing a cover on Puglia for The Times and a number of destination guides, hotel guides and features across The i Paper, Independent, Telegraph, Daily Mail, The Observer and Good Housekeeping. I also became Telegraph Travel‘s official Leeds and York destination expert and wrote a full travel guide to each city.

For several months I was a features editor for US food website Tasting Table (Static Media), and have been a regular freelance editor for Telegraph Travel’s Hotels team (editorial) and copywriter for the Travel Commerce team (hotel offers) for over two years. I have also written the website for luxury travel representation company Le Petit Monde, and was responsible for the final proof-editing of Printmakers’ Circle’s debut art book, IMPRESSED.

THE DIGITAL MARKETING ERA

In 2025 I decided to hone my digital marketing skills and took on an intense Masters-level Digital Marketing Strategy & Analytics Career Accelerator at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). The course strengthened my practical understanding of strategic marketing, campaign planning and data-led decision-making.

Through a combination of applied projects and a real-world employer brief, I developed integrated marketing strategies incorporating marketing mix recommendations and channel planning across inbound, outbound, social media, email and SEO. I created campaign plans and presentations covering audience segmentation, customer journey planning and behavioural insights, using data analysis to inform recommendations. Working closely with a team, the final project involved creating and presenting a digital marketing strategy for a UK-based client.
